Section II: Object of Contract

Title:
20/01058 Hire of a Ring Net Vessel for Mackerel Catch Inspections

Reference number: 20/01058

II.1.4) Short description
The Institute of Marine Research would like to hire a ring net vessel for carrying out trials with catch inspections, technology development and fish welfare in seining. The trials will preferably be carried out for 14 days in the period 14 September to 11 October, coinciding with commercial mackerel fishing.

II.01) Estimated value excluding VAT:
NOK 2100000.00

Information about lots
II.1.6) This contract is divided into lots: no

Description: Item/Lot 1
NUTS code: NO
II.1.4) Short description
The contracting authority will have missions to test various optical and acoustic instruments and methods for catch identification and inspections in seining, which are being developed. In addition the influence of catch and handling stress on fish behaviour, physiology, vitality and product quality will be investigated.

The contracting authority would like to use the vessel for:

— observations of school behaviour before and during catches with the vessel's own sonars;

— trials of setting out echo sounders with flying drones and using sensors with a stereo camera before and during the catch process to estimate individual sizes of mackerel as well as observations of fish behaviour;

— collection of physical samples of catches during pumping and in the fish tank for studies of stress response and product quality;

— logging environmental conditions during the catch process and in the fish tank of operational data about the vessel (where available), which is integrated with observations of fish behaviour and stress responses.

Catches made during the mission will be part of the vessel's quota, and thus all the value of the catch will belong to the vessel, in the same way as during commercial fishing. The vessel must therefore have a residual quota of at least 200 tonnes of mackerel when the trials start. The catch must be made in accordance with HI's personnel on board. Some of the mackerel catch will be released in the trial period. Release must comply with the 'Best Practice' developed by HI/The Directorate of Fisheries with closing nets that must be rigged in accordance with annex 3. We do not reckon on any loss or reduction of the catch or quota taken during the mission. There will, thus be no need for compensation for such a loss. The port for the start and end of the mission is Bergen.

The number of persons from the hirer on board will be minimum 5 persons and up to 7 persons.

The expeditions will be executed in accordance with the set up and management of the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research. The crew of the vessel will follow instructions and implement work assignments, i.a. rigging of gear and equipment, sampling and tagging, as directed by the expedition leader or his representative, as long as this is in-line with the operation of the vessel.
