ELGT – Shale Trail Design and Construction of Shared-use Path Construction Phase 1
Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust (ELGT) is inviting tenders from suitably qualified suppliers to provide the design and construction of sections of a 16 miles of shared-use footpath and associated works within West Lothian. This is the first phase of the shared-use footpath works within West Lothian. The design and construction and upgrading of approximately 850 meters of shared use footpath over 4 locations as part of the development of a 16-mile shared use footpath enabling the creation of a heritage trail.

The works included within this contract are of a similar nature for the 4 sites and involve a variety of design and construction of a lowland footpath network.

— removal of redundant infrastructure (paths, fencing, steps),

III.1.1) List and brief description of conditions
The contractor shall perform the works in such a manner as to be safe and without risk to the health or safety of persons in the vicinity of the location where the works are being performed (whether such persons are in the vicinity of the said place at the time when the works are being performed or otherwise) and in such a manner as to comply with any relevant health and safety or other legislation (including statutory instruments, orders, or regulations made under the said legislation) and any requirements imposed by a local or other regulatory authority in connection with the performance of services of the type supplied to the employer, whether specifically or generally. The contractor shall indemnify the employer against all actions, suits, claims, demands, losses, charges, costs and expenses which the employer may suffer or incur as a result of or in connection with any breach of this condition Z6.

The works consist mainly of designing and refurbishing existing footpaths, refurbishing whinstone footpaths and forming new whinstone footpaths, approximate areas as detailed in bill of quantities.
This work will require the use of some heavy machinery (2.5 Tonne rollers, jcb’s dumpers, etc.)
Other works include the creation of removal and landscaping type 1 paths, construction of type I and Bitmac paths, drainage ditches, pipe culverts, upgrading and repair of bridges, removal of stock fencing and construction of stock proof fencing, and general tidying up of construction sites.
