II.1.4) Short description

The background to the project and BioConnect Innovation Centre CLG's requirements are set out in the Scope of Service document issued as part of the tender documents and noted below;

BioConnect leads the field in developing vitamin and mineral enriched mushrooms, including vitamins D, B12 and selenium. The recent launch of a new vitamin D and B12 enriched mushroom addresses two major deficiencies of the vegan diet.

Bioconnect’s mushroom powders, enriched with vitamins and minerals, provide ingredients for functional food, sports and nutraceutrical markets.

Devoted to closing the bio economy loop, we use clean, traceable processes to create sustainable, natural ingredients, with no waste.

Bioconnect has committed to deliver a facility with capacity to house 125 resources which will divide (i) Lab space: 75 resources (ii) Office space: 50 resources. The design of the lab / office layout will be fundamental to the success of the Centre and so the design stage of the process will be crucial to the success of the facility. Initial estimates provided indicate a total floor area of approximately 1,600 m^2. Suitably scaled car parking infrastructure to service the capacity of the facility is required. The intention is to double the capacity from 125 to 250 so the development of the Centre should maintain the ambition to subsequently increase the capacity of the Centre.
